Detailed Restriction/Reopening Information For Guatemala
Data Last Updated: September 28, 2020

General Information

Open (Level 2)

Guatemala has reopened its land, air, and sea ports of entry to all passenger traffic from September 18.

All persons entering Guatemala must present a negative COVID-19 test result taken up to no more than 72 hours before entry, or must self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival

Mask Requirement

Mask is required to be worn in all public indoor, public transport and certain outdoor areas where social distancing is not possible.

Internal Restrictions/Closures

Authorities in Guatemala have extended the nationwide daily 2100-0400 curfew and other internal restrictive measures through at least Oct. 5. Other measures remain unchanged. Commercial activity has largely resumed across the country, albeit with capacity limits and strict operating protocols according to the nation's COVID-19 four-tier alert system.

During non-curfew hours, physical distance must be maintained and masks must be worn. Public, social, religious, sports and educational activities continue to be canceled.

Shops selling food, local markets and supermarkets will only open Monday to Friday from 6am to 4pm. However, bars will remain closed and restaurants can only operate via home delivery or takeaway delivery.

Under the curfew, only essential workers such as security force members, healthcare staff, and those transporting food to markets will be allowed out of their homes.

Airlines & Transport

Authorities in Guatemala will reopen the country's land, air, and sea ports of entry  to passenger traffic from Sept. 18. Additional health protocols and screenings will be implemented at La Aurora International Airport (GUA), which will also reopen for commercial passenger flights.
