Detailed Restriction/Reopening Information For Somalia

General Information

Very Limited Access

Somalia restarted international passenger flights from Aug. 3 amid easing of restrictions related to coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Travelers must have a medical certificate confirming they are free from COVID-19. The certificate should be obtained not later than 72 hours before the travel time.

Mask Requirement

Mask is required to be worn in all public indoor, public transport and certain outdoor areas where social distancing is not possible.

Internal Restrictions/Closures

Indefinite curfew hours of 2000-0500 in Mogadishu. Essential service providers, such as medical personnel, health workers, and food distributors, are exempt.

Closure of all schools, restaurants, bars, religious institutions, nonessential businesses, and social gatherings.

Some locations outside the nation's capital have also taken similar measures due to COVID-19 activity. A nightly curfew remains in place in the city of Garowe in Puntland. Moreover, authorities in Somaliland have established a series of strict measures, including the closure of all its land borders and a ban on public gatherings.

Somaliland has also closed all its seaports, except the Port of Berbera; however, essential goods, such as food, fuel, and medical supplies, can arrive by sea. Other regions could impose similar restrictions over the coming weeks.


Airlines & Transport

Authorities in Somalia have resumed international passenger flights from Aug. 3 

Domestic passenger flights resumed July 5. All land borders, however, remain closed.

Information for Non-Tourists

Upon entry to Somalia, you will need to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test, taken no more than 72 hours before. Upon exit from Somalia, you will need to show proof of another negative COVID-19 test.

Egal International Airport has put in place additional measures to screen passengers arriving into Hargeisa by air, including temperature checks. Those people displaying symptoms linked to the virus may be transferred to a nearby isolation facility while further tests are carried out.
